Consultation has concluded.

The new playground was officially opened on 1 December 2021! Thank you to all who contributed to this consultation.

Thank you to all who shared their ideas and helped us design the new playground. The final plan for the Bundock Park Playground can be viewed here. You can learn more about the project here.

Stage 2 consultation: Concept Plan

Randwick City Council is upgrading the playground at Bundock Park on Clovelly Beach with new play equipment, landscaping and shade.

Earlier this year, we asked the community to tell us how the new playground should be designed. Kids, mums, dads and grandparents joined in the fun, sharing ideas and designing their perfect playground by the beach!

What we heard:

The kids told us they want to swing, climb and slide…so we are proposing a basket swing, wooden play equipment with rope ladders and monkey bar hooks to climb, and a slide!

The grown-ups told us they want shade and a nature playground with equipment made from wood…so we are proposing two new shade structures to cover the entire playground, three new wooden play pieces including a boat, and the playground will be relocated slightly west with more bushes and shrubs.

Pretty good, but a couple of comments. Firstly, it's good that the playground is no longer in the path of stormwater runoff that pours through the existing playground during and after heavy rain. However, it may now be in the path of flooding from the gross pollutant trap that seems to be located behind the new playground. The trap often blows its top after heavy rain. Might damage the play equipment. Secondly, seating seems quite limited. At present, people sit on the low stone walls (both sides of the present walkway) to watch the playground and the beach. Understand the need for containment but don't want to lose seating. In any case the seating looks a bit sparse especially for GRANDPARENTS. Would be good to have seating where parents (and grandparents) can observe both younger kids in the playground and older kids on the beach.

Absolutely brilliant!
It was always in the way whilst located within the walkway. This is a safer and nicer spot, and looks like it will be semi-enclosed so safer for the little ones.

Great work , Cheers to the council teams

I'm happy to see the playground being upgraded, especially with the inclusion of shade cloth and use of natural timber. The location seems a better use of space provided there is still sufficient grass for small picnics. I agree with Sally's comment about having equipment also for younger toddlers. The water fountain located here and up near the surf club needs a drainage solution - perhaps the run off could be diverted to water the surrounding plants. Great job!

It is terrific to see this plan come to life. I think moving it to the new location makes sense and there will be more natural shade. There does not appear to be anything for under 2 year olds. usually there would be swing for children too small to safely swing independently, and something for crawling through/around etc. I would eb disappointed if this was for bigger kids only.
