Grandfathers and fathers Hardware shop at Maroubra Junction

My grandfather D J Mann opened a Hardware shop in Dudleys Corner and my father joined him after World War II and the shop's name was changed to D J Mann and Son and operated until the 1960's. Next door was Wagstaffs' Mens Wear that operated until 1990's as my son who was born in 1973 hired a dinner suit there to go to formals. the other side of the shop was Goldsmiths Shoe Shop and then a Chemist shop. Post Office was on the corner of Maroubra Road and Anzac Parade and then Dorothy Collier's newspaper The Messenger etc. When Maroubra Plaza was built in the 1960's one of the shops in the arcade was Nock and Kirbys who asked my father to close down the shop and become their Manager. The shop was then became a Pie Shop. My father Eric Mann was also President of the Maroubra Junction Chamber of Commerce, Vice-President of the Suburban Shopkeepers Association and Vice-President of the Retail Traders Association, plus President of the Maroubra Bowling Club and was instrumental in having the new Club house built, he was Badge Holder No 1 at the Bowling Club. He was also instrumental in the movement, along with Lionel Bowen, to have the central part of Anzac Parade turned into parking for cars after the trams stopped running. I remember he told me abut delivering things from the shop t Long Bay Jail and the sound the doors made when they shut behind him as he drove in there.
