The wait is over with Randwick City Council’s new educational children’s bike facility in Heffron Park, Maroubra now open.

Located next to Jersey Road, the $1.6M project includes an interactive bike track featuring various road signs, road markings and road rule information signs to help children develop vital road safety riding skills.

Works also include a new shaded picnic area, an extension of the shared pathway adjacent to Jersey Road, extensive native landscaping, and improvements to the existing car parking bays on Jersey Road.

Mayor of Randwick Tony Bowen said the kids’ bike track is great news for families.

“I know many children, including my own, have watched construction of this bike track eagerly – I’m glad they now have the chance to try it out!”

“This is really a first class facility for our City. And as a father of two energetic young boys, I know how valuable good quality parks, playgrounds and facilities are to families.

“As well as a great, safe place for kids to learn about road rules and have some fun on their bikes, this facility is now a lovely spot for families to spend time.

“As well as providing a wealth of recreation opportunities, the whole Heffron Park precinct is an important social hub for our City, and our sense of community is really strengthened by facilities like this,” the Mayor said.

Other works underway in Heffron Park, Maroubra include an $8.7M upgrade of the Des Renford Aquatic Centre with a new gym, crèche and fitness area and a new public toilet and amenities building next to the cycling criterion.
