Ocean View Reserve Playground update

Randwick City Council has started work on the new playground at Ocean View Park and anticipates the newly refurbished playground will be open to the public towards the middle of winter.

As a result of the community feedback, Council made a number of changes to the playground design.

These are:

•  The softfall bicycle path has been removed.  The feedback was that the children using the bike path would clash with those using the park for ball sports.

•  More play equipment will be installed, with special emphasis on equipment for 3 to 12 year olds.

•  The playground area will be adjusted slightly to take account of other park uses, but will have a similar size play space to the existing playground.

•  The seat proposed for close to the south boundary will be moved to under the trees near Broome Street, where other park users can sit away from the play area. All other seats will be kept as shown on the original plan.

•  Because the tea-trees in the north west corner are declining, they will be replaced with other native trees.

•  The existing bubbler will be retained.

These changes have been made within the budget of $100,000 and take into account the small area of the park. It is standard practice for playground upgrades in Randwick City to include safety fencing, shade structures, bins, street furniture and soft-fall rubber in addition to the play equipment.
