Open Space and Rec Needs Study

From March to May 2020, we consulted with the community to find how you use our parks, reserves, beaches or sporting fields, what activities you do, and what infrastructure is needed to provide quality open space and recreation facilities.

More than 700 community, sporting groups and peak sporting bodies provided feedback, which has been incorporated in the Open Space and Recreation Needs Study. The Study will guide improvements to our parks, sporting facilities and open spaces, and assist in their future management.

Some key findings of the community consultation told us we need to:

  • Increase tree canopy and shade cover in parks, playgrounds, along the coast and active transport routes
  • Increase active transport links to support recreation, access and safety
  • Upgrade and provide more diverse play spaces for a range of ages and abilities
  • Continue to provide access to natural areas for connection to nature
  • Provide and plan for recreation with dogs

You can read more about the consultation in the Open Space and Recreation Needs Study.
