It's a price of a coffee, she said

the other day I was visiting a popular chemist on maroubra road. As I stood in the line to pay I overheard another lady customer ask the sales attendant if she could "owe" $3.00 for a prescription she was paying for...she had left her wallet at home and had only $109 on her while her bill was $112. The lady promised to return and pay the outstanding $3.00 - she was a regular customer who has all of her family's prescriptions on file at this chemist. The sales attendant refused to comply, much to everyone's dismay - BUT then another customer offered to cover the difference pointing out to the now the embarrassed sales assistant that it's just $3.00 - its the cost of a coffee  - but right now it will also make someone's life just a little bit easier. Isn't that worth something?

I also was the recipient of having a shortfall paid for by someone else. On way home, I called in to Woolies in Royal Randwick with just a $50 note left in my purse, but needed only a few things. At cash desk I was told I owed an extra 90 cents. I was in the middle of stating that my coins didn't add up to 90 cents, and was about to decide what item to hand back, when a voice behind me said "I have 90 cents". I turned around to see a lovely 20-something girl handing this over. I protested, but she insisted. I told her I'd recently seen a TV piece called "Random Acts of Kindness" featuring exactly what she was doing. At the time I thought "yes, I'd do that in the same circumstances", but did not expect to be the recipient. I hope that gorgeous young lady felt as good about her "random act of kindness" as I did.
