Council is exploring the possibility of using Broadarrow Reserve in Maroubra as additional parking space on some weekends and public holidays, sunrise to sunset, between 1 November and 31 March each year.

Currently, Broadarrow Reserve is used as an off leash dog park and is occasionally used as additional parking space on limited occasions when major events are being held at Maroubra Beach.

The aim is to ease the strain on local parking when visitor numbers at the beach are expected to be high. It is anticipated that the reserve would provide an additional 300 parking spaces. Access to the reserve on the days allocated for parking would be limited to cars only.

Maroubra Beach attracts large numbers of visitors on hot and sunny days, in particular on weekends and public holidays, placing parking pressures on surrounding streets. It is days such as these that Council would consider activating the reserve for parking.

The safety of our beach users is our top priority, and we would only open the reserve if the beach and surf conditions permit and ensure everyone's safety.

We are seeking your input to determine the local community’s support for the proposal. Council will also consider the cost and resources required, such as traffic control, to activate the reserve for parking. Additionally, we will assess the impact on local businesses and Council services, such as our Lifeguards and Ranger services.
