Burrows Park includes a sports field with an associated amenities building. The building is old and non-compliant with current building codes. Council has allocated money to investigate upgrading the building to better meet the needs of local juniors who play on the field.

No. If the field were to be made full size, it would continue to be used by the junior rugby league teams only. 

The word ‘international’ is an NRL term for a full-size field. It does not refer to professional or senior players. Burrows Park is currently smaller than NRL standard size. This means that children aged over 13-years cannot continue to play rugby league matches and have to play their home games elsewhere at other local ‘international’ compliant fields. Council is seeking community feedback on the potential to make the ground bigger to accommodate junior games for over 13s to support our local junior teams.  

Council has not yet developed costs for different options. We are currently seeking to understand community attitudes and whether there is support for undertaking detailed design and feasibility work on upgrading the amenities building and extending the field size. Should we proceed to detailed design, this process will provide an indication of cost and the associated impact on the park.

There is no intention to vary the hours or days of use of the sports field. 

There is no intention to upgrade or intensify the current lighting. 

Should an upgrade proceed, Council will retain an off leash dog area.

Should Council proceed with undertaking design feasibility on extending the sports field, the potential impact on nearby flora and fauna will be considered.
