Consultation has concluded
Randwick City Council is creating a new pocket park on the corner of Clovelly and Carrington Road, Randwick.
After round 1 consultation with community and local businesses we have developed a concept design for the intersection at Clovelly and Carrington Roads.
You told us it was important that we create a pedestrian-friendly experience while minimising impacts on traffic flows, bus routes, and on-street parking. Your comments have helped us develop a concept design that includes a pocket park with a village atmosphere and streetscape improvements that create a green urban oasis.
Where is it?
The pocket park will be created in the existing median at the intersection of Clovelly and Carrington Roads. The existing slip lane road will be reclaimed to create a public space for the community and the parking spaces will be relocated ensuring there is no net loss in parking at the intersection.
Project highlights:
The proposed key features of the draft concept design involve:
Green pocket park to create a village atmosphere
Increase in trees and greenery across the whole intersection
Seating encouraging passers by to stop, relax and connect with nature
An informal gathering space for the local community to enjoy
A multipurpose deck area that can function as a versatile community space
Pleasant night time safety and decorative lighting
Strategic repositioning of parking to ensure easy access to local businesses
Greater separation between pedestrian and cars to increase safety
As part of the design process, traffic surveys were completed between 7:00am and 10:00am, and between 2.30pm and 6:00pm. The AM and PM peak hours were found to occur between 7:45am to 8:45am and 5:00pm to 6:00pm.
The study found that the removal of the slip lane does not significantly impact the overall operation of the Clovelly Road / Carrington Road intersection in both AM and PM peaks and the intersection will continue to operate satisfactorily.
Interact with the digital design board to comment on the various design aspects.
Come have a chat with the project team at our pop up. Due to the expected rainy weather, we have rescheduled the pop up. Please note the new date: Saturday 9 July from 9:30am to 11:30am, at the project site (outside 160 Clovelly Road, Randwick).
Make a submission online or send your comments via email to the General Manager via email headed "Clovelly and Carrington Road Pocket Park" to council@randwick.nsw.gov.au or by post to 30 Frances Street, Randwick 2031.
Consultation period: 8 June to 11 July 2022 (extended).
