Stage 1 consultation

Randwick City Council is exploring the opportunity to create a new green space and improve the streetscape at the intersection of Clovelly Road and Burnie Street, Clovelly.

The project is part of the Clovelly Road Masterplan* which was developed by Council in close consultation with the community including residents and businesses in 2019 and 2020.

The plan responds to requests from the Clovelly community to add more greenery, strengthen the village feel, and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

We are proposing to create a green public space in the existing median at the intersection of Clovelly Road and Burnie Street. While there aren’t currently any detailed plans for the space, there is the possibility of closing the existing slip lane road to create a people-focused space.

Traffic and Parking:

To ensure the best possible outcome for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles, Council has undertaken a traffic assessment, part of which indicates there would be minimal impact on the operation of the Clovelly Road and Burnie Street intersection and surrounding roads if the slip lane was closed. Furthermore, the loss of parking could be mitigated by providing parking along the new kerb created by the closure of the slip lane.

Have your say:

If you live nearby, regularly visit the Clovelly Beach area, or are a local business owner then we want to hear from you.

Do you support the project? Do you have ideas for the design of the new space? Help us think outside the box. Would you like to see an outdoor dining space, a green oasis to meet your neighbours for a morning coffee, hammocks for chilling out, or space for urban parkour?

To have your say and get involved:

Register here for the online community workshop on Wednesday 12 October 2022, 5.30pm to 7pm to discuss the project and explore design ideas and opportunities.

Take our 5-minute survey and tell us what you think of the project and share your ideas for what you would like to see in the space.

Or send a comment to the General Manager, with the subject line "Burnie Street Pocket Park" via council@randwick.nsw.gov.au or to 30 Frances Street, Randwick 2031.

Consultation period: 26 September to 9am, 24 October 2022.

*Please note that the designs exhibited in the Clovelly Road Masterplan are for illustrative purposes only and are subject to the community consultation process and design development.
