Consultation has concluded.
After round 1 consultation with community and local businesses, Randwick City Council has developed a concept design for the intersection at Clovelly Road and Burnie Street, Clovelly.
Feedback from the community told us it was important that we create a pedestrian-friendly community space, that provides a green refuge from heat and included an element of fun and interaction. Community feedback helped us develop a concept design that provides a cool, green space for people to come together over a coffee or a cold drink, and streetscape improvements that increase safety and deliver a great pedestrian experience at this strip of shops.
Where is it?
This new green public space is proposed for the existing median at the intersection of Clovelly Road and Burnie Street. The draft concept design reclaims the existing slip lane to create a people focused experience for local residents and neighbouring businesses.
Project highlights
The proposed key features of the draft concept design involve:
Dense planting and increased tree canopy to create a green oasis at Burnie St shops
Interactive stepping stones, totems and planting to create a sense of adventure
Seating to encourage passers-by to stop, relax and take a break
An informal gathering space for the local community to enjoy
A tiered stair case to create levels and separation from Clovelly Rd
Greater separation between pedestrians and cars to increase safety
Increased traffic calming and pedestrian crossings to cross both Burnie St and Clovelly Rd safely
If you live nearby, regularly visit the Clovelly Beach area, or are a local business owner then we want to hear from you.
