Randwick City Council is committed to protecting and conserving our environment. Over many years we’ve invested in sustainable programs through our award-winning Sustaining our City program including solar programs, electric charging stations, stormwater harvesting, revegetation using native and indigenous plants and expanding our coastal walkway.

We’ve developed an Environment Strategy that sets our long-term objectives to guide our future planning and programs. It’s one of six informing strategies under Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting Framework and is aligned to our 10-year City Plan.

Our aim is to restore and protect the diversity of our ecosystems, conserving the resources we have, protecting our coastal environment and ensuring our residents feel knowledgeable about and empowered to address Climate Change.

Specifically, we have set ourselves 6 broader objectives and more than 30 strategic approaches to complete and be accountable within certain time frames. These include:

  • 40% tree canopy coverage by 2040;
  • diverting 60% of our food waste from landfill by 2025; and
  • reducing our greenhouse emissions by 60% by 2030.

How can you have your say?

Consultation period: 2 September to 13 October 2020.
