Consultation has concluded.

The 20-year masterplan to guide the future of Maroubra Junction was formally adopted by Council on 27 June 2023 following public exhibition. Community feedback found general support for the plan that proposes a range of changes to create a lively and pedestrian-orientated town centre. The masterplan proposes improving pedestrian access across Anzac Parade with a new mid-block crossing, large tree plantings, connecting the centre median parking and plaza to retailers and a new bi-directional cycleway on the eastern side of the central median.

Randwick Council has developed a draft Public Domain Master Plan for Maroubra Junction.

The plan is both practical and inspirational in its approach to transforming Maroubra Junction into a place where innovative transport and traffic solutions combine to create a lively, pedestrian-oriented destination.

The plan is based on feedback from community consultation undertaken in 2021 and is designed to guide public domain improvements over the next 20 years.

The Maroubra Junction Town Centre will be:

  • Vibrant and comfortable: with lively streets and high-quality public spaces that supports activated shop fronts and encourages locals and visitors to stay longer
  • Memorable and inclusive: with memorable places that celebrate Maroubra’s culture and history with local amenity and spaces for people to meet and gather
  • Connected and accessible: safe and easy to walk and cycle around, well serviced by public transport
  • Biodiverse and resilient: increased urban forest canopy cover, landscaped areas with native plants, water sensitive urban design, and new and improved green spaces.

Highlights of the masterplan:

Transforming Maroubra Junction with big ideas!

The draft Public Domain Master Plan also explores the community’s ‘big ideas’ to transform Maroubra Junction from an area considered to be dirty and dominated by traffic, to a centre that and prioritises pedestrians and has highly valued community spaces.
