What is being proposed?

We’re proposing a new, contemporary surf club designed to better serve the community and support the club’s ongoing operations.

How will the new surf club support volunteer lifesaving efforts?

The design includes larger storage areas and better access to lifesaving equipment, making it easier for volunteers to respond quickly and effectively. The viewing deck has clear sight to the beach and water with quick access down the outdoor stairs, proving another angle to observe the water and keep the community safe.

The new training rooms will provide a permanent and inviting space to train new and current volunteers for their Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC), Bronze Medallion, Silver Medallion Aquatic Rescue, and Gold Medallion.

Will the new building reflect the club’s history?

Yes. The design honours the club’s cultural legacy while ensuring it meets modern standards and future needs. The entryway and stairwell will act as a museum and display area for plaques, trophies, and historic surf craft.

What new features will be available for club members?

The new facility will offer a large gym, upgraded amenities, and improved member spaces, including function and meeting rooms, a lounge, kitchen, bar, and an outdoor terrace.

What improvements will be made for the general public?

The upgraded surf club includes improved public amenities such as showers, a barista window, and landscaped seating.

    How is sustainability being addressed?

The building will feature natural ventilation, solar panels, and sustainable materials, ensuring strong environmental performance in a coastal landscape.

Will the new building be open to the general public?

There will be externally accessible features like showers and a barista window. Those attending functions or meetings will be able to access the building, but there will not be general public access. The facility is being specifically built to support the club's 1,400-strong membership base who provide vital surf life saving patrols, education and community services. The club is open to anyone to join and they actively welcome new members. Find out more information on the Maroubra SLSC website.
