Alcohol Free Zones
Consultation has concluded
Randwick City Council’s established Alcohol Free Zones (AFZ) expire on 8 November 2015. Council is proposing to reestablish these AFZs for a further four year period until 2019.
AFZs established by Council prohibit the drinking of alcohol in public places that are public roads or car parks under the care and control of Council. AFZs do not encompass parks and reserves. AFZs are established and operate under Sections 642 – 649 of the NSW Local Government Act. The zones exclude adjacent parks, reserves and areas licensed by Council such as outdoor eating areas.
Council is also proposing to reestablish the Alcohol Prohibited Zone (APZ) that extends from Coogee to Clovelly and includes beachside parks and reserves for one day a year only on Australia Day. This will operate from sunset on the 25 January to sunrise on the 27 January for four more years until 2019.
