The Arts and Culture Strategy is one of Council's key informing strategies. The Informing Strategies are based on research and provide an important link between the vision and high level outcomes of the City Plan and the specific actions that will deliver these outcomes. Community Consultation:

Randwick City has a unique cultural identity. Our mix of iconic locations, history and heritage offer an opportunity to celebrate arts and culture in different ways.

The Draft Arts and Culture Strategy is Council’s plan to support and grow the diversity of arts and cultural activities within Randwick City.

This strategy is a 10-year plan to help deliver Council’s longer term vision contained in our City Plan (Community Strategic Plan) through specific objectives and strategic approaches. The specific approaches will be delivered as part of Council’s delivery program and annual operational plans and budgets.

Overall, our objectives are to establish a strong cultural identity for Randwick City, increase the number of places people can participate in art and culture, and increase attendance at Council arts and cultural programmes. 

Specifically, we have set ourselves more than 20 strategic approaches to achieve our objectives. Some of these approaches include:

  • Increasing the number of programs and activities with a focus on First Nations content, outdoor performances and festival programming.
  • Updating and implementing the Public Art Program.
  • Creating a Cultural Arts Precinct around the Randwick Junction Town Centre.
  • Identifying new venues and open space areas for people to participate in the creative arts.
  • Increasing use of Council venues for the creative arts.
  • Expanding and distributing Council events across all suburbs, including smaller local events.

In 2019, Council conducted a community consultation as part of a study into arts and culture in Randwick City.
