Light up Town Hall
Randwick Town Hall is an important meeting location as well as the symbolic civic heart of the Randwick City community. It hosts council meetings, arts and cultural exhibitions and community events.
To help support charities, community organisations and to mark significant occasions, we are proposing to permit occasions when the exterior of the building could be lit with vibrant, changeable LED lights.
Organisations would be able to apply to have the town hall lit up in colours to support their cause.
Examples could include: pink for breast cancer awareness, teal for World Ovarian Cancer Day and blue and green for Stroke Awareness Week.
The building could also be lit up to mark significant cultural, religious or sporting occasions, events at town hall or to show support for major national or international issues.
To support and manage the way the building is lit, Randwick City Council has drafted an Illumination of Randwick Town Hall Policy.
Following community consultation and review of the policy, Council would consider purchasing and installing a customised LED lighting system on the Town Hall.
About the draft policy
Our draft policy provides the framework for how we consider and determine illumination requests from community, charity, government, and not-for-profit groups.
These organisations are proposed to be able to apply to Council at any time to illuminate the Town Hall, with no cost.
Illumination by external application is proposed to be generally limited to:
- 12 occasions a year
- A period of two consecutive nights
- static lighting.
Decisions whether to illuminate the Randwick Town Hall to mark national or international events of significance, commemoration or solidarity or Council events and activities will be made considering the principles of the draft policy.
