Integrated Transport

The Integrated Transport Strategy is one of Council's key informing strategies. The Informing Strategies are based on research and provide an important link between the vision and high level outcomes of the City Plan and the specific actions that will deliver these outcomes. Community Consultation: 

The ability to move around plays a key role in our quality of life, the choices we make about where we live and how liveable our communities are. Having safe, viable transport alternatives gives us real options for the way we move around our City, and provides access to jobs, recreation and education opportunities.

The Integrated Transport Strategy is Council’s plan for improving effective transport options throughout Randwick City.

This strategy is a 10 year plan to help deliver Council’s longer term vision contained in its City Plan (Community Strategic Plan) through specific objectives and strategic approaches. The strategic approaches will be delivered as part of Council’s delivery program and annual operational plans and budgets.

Overall, our objectives are to encourage a safe, efficient and sustainable road and transport network, and a parking system to cater for all members of our community.

Specifically, we have set ourselves more than 30 strategic approaches to achieve our objectives. Some of these approaches include:

• Providing an additional 30km of safe cycling routes
• Developing a green grid and network of walking paths
• Improving safety for people riding bikes
• Providing 200 new bicycle parking spaces across our beaches, local centres and key destinations
• Working with Transport for NSW to improve public transport service frequency and capacity by 2027
• Working with Transport for NSW to provide a public transport stop within 400m of all residential dwellings by 2029
• Increasing the number of car share spaces.

HOW WAS THE STRATEGY DEVELOPED?

In 2020, Council consulted with the local community to understand how people move around Randwick City, what they like and what’s missing from our transport mix. Community and stakeholder engagement included online sessions, workshops, and a survey which received 825 responses during the consultation period.

As a result of the community consultation, an Integrated Transport Study was developed. You can read more about the community consultation as part of the study.
