Stage 1 - Design, consult on and implement threshold treatments
Stage 2 - Undertake a Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) study
Stage 3 - Implement a program of works arising out of LATM study

The consultants, Arup, have prepared the first draft of their recommendation report for Council. However since receiving this report the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), for CBD and South East Light Rail project has been released by the State Government, with details of likely impacts. It is anticipated that the report responding to submissions made on the EIS will be released in March 2014.

As it is not possible to finalise the LATM study without a thorough understanding of the local details arising from final proposal for light rail, Council has placed the LATM study on hold until the Submissions Report is released.

Please revisit this site in March 2014 for further updates.

Background
This consultation has now concluded

Following strong local community concerns about traffic, we are doing a Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) study for Kensington and West Kingsford.

We want an LATM that responds to your needs and traffic concerns, so please get involved and tell us your ideas and opinions.

The LATM will set out the traffic problems reported by the local community and propose practical steps that we could take to resolve these problems.

Use our special web based collaborative mapping tool to give us your opinion and comment on the views of others in your community. You can keep up to date on what other community members are saying and how fellow residents have responded to your ideas by visiting the site a number of times during the consultation period.

We are holding two community workshops at the Masonic Hall - 199 Anzac Parade, Kensington on:

  • Saturday 11 May from 10am to 12pm
  • Monday 13 May from 6pm to 8pm
  • Monday 20 May from 6pm to 8pm

The study area is shown by the blue line on the map. It does not include the arterial roads – Alison Road, Anzac Parade, Gardeners Road and South Dowling Street - as these are State roads, not under the control of Randwick Council.

We will be holding a second round of consultations later in 2013 and will invite comment on the draft proposals before finalising the LATM study.

From 15-21 October 2011 Council undertook traffic counting in this area, either by people with counters or by rubber tubes stretched across roads. These traffic counts gave information on local traffic flow - including speed, volume, vehicle-type and the routes chosen by motorists.

The results of the traffic counts are in the library and explanations of what the graphs and tables mean are in the FAQs.

This website will be regularly updated with the latest information. We will be asking questions and taking quick polls . The document library has all Council's documents relating to traffic management in Kensington from 1995 to the present. There are up to date information kits on this project at the Bowen Library and Council's Administrative Centre and we will keep Kensington Precinct meetings fully informed with the progress of the LATM study.

Please sign in - or if you haven't done so yet register to participate - join in the community conversation and share your ideas with Council and your fellow residents.

Council is committed to keeping the community informed about the LATM study and seeking community ideas and opinions about traffic management in the area.
