Randwick Council is proposing to install an outdoor gym near Malabar Beach at Cromwell Park. The project is part of Council's commitment to encouraging healthy lifestyles by providing free outdoor fitness opportunities for residents.
The idea was first proposed by the Malabar Precinct and supported by Council in early 2019 following positive feedback about outdoor gyms located in other parts of Randwick City, including Clovelly, Chifley, Frenchmans Bay, Kensington and Maroubra.
The gym will provide a range of equipment such as a leg press, aerobic cycle, chest press, elliptical trainer, pull up bar, parallel bars, sit up bench and body rings. The equipment has been specifically chosen to suit people of all ages and fitness levels. The equipment will be made from corrosion-resistant metal and located on a soft fall rubber surface and instructional signage will be installed on each piece of equipment.
We are seeking feedback from the community to help determine the best location for the gym. Two possible locations have been identified by Council staff in consultation with the Malabar Precinct. Both sites have good access and visibility and beautiful views over Malabar Beach. Importantly, the two identified locations are less used parts of the park and do not take away space from people using the playground, barbecue, picnic shelters and beach.
You can get involved by telling us where you think the gym should be located!
