To celebrate the new building, Council is hosting a range of free onsite activities from Wed 8 May to Mon 13 May 2024.
New hall design on public exhibition
Plans for the new Matraville Youth and Cultural Hall are now on public exhibition as part of the development application process to construct the new hall. The project will see a new hall with a generous covered forecourt, new accessible toilets, new kitchen and improved ventilation and lighting.

All submissions will be considered as part of the detailed planning assessment, and the development application will be determined by the Randwick Local Planning Panel later this year.

Randwick Council has allocated funds in Council’s Budget for 2020-21 to build a new hall at the site of the Matraville Youth & Cultural Hall on Knowles Avenue, Matraville.
The existing building dates from the 1960s, is in poor condition and is not serving the community well. It will be demolished and a new building constructed on the same site.
To help inform Council’s design for the new hall we’re seeking input from the community. Have you ever used the hall? What was your experience? What would make you use it in the future and what activities would you like to see offered?
Your feedback is important to ensure we can deliver a facility that works for the community and is sensitive to its residential setting.

Consultation period: 23 September to 13 October 2020.
The next stage of the project will be develop a design for the new hall using your feedback.

A venue to hire by the public and organisations
An online platform allowing local residents and organisations to book the venue for short periods of time. Allow the public to hire the venue to host socially beneficial events: e.g. meet-up events, pop up shops, fundraisers, children’s parties, plays, children’s events, talks, meet the MP Q&A, Garage sales to local residents to both buy and sell, bike servicing, fitness classes, elderly teas and games, First aid classes, cooking classes, group therapy, workshops, Girl guides, Cubs and Scouts, Toast masters, Women's Institute, Martial arts, Craft workshops and groups, meditation...

Cultural and recreational hall
Keep the hall open to all members of the community. Allow local members to continue to use the hall for recreation activities such as Tae Kwon Do.

Pre and post work hours Yoga classes
Supporting mental and physical wellbeing for those working And new parents. It would be super to have a mums and bubs yoga. As there currently isn’t classes in Coogee.

Eco build and carbon natural
Create the first sustainable village hall of the future. Solar cells for power, thermal mass heating, permaculture, Dry toilet. Support Australian businesses that manufacture and supply eco building products buy using and promoting their products during the new build.

As a local youth mentor I feel the hall needs areas Indoor for kitchen,TV,Art,games,reading,music,dancing Outdoor basketball,food garden,gym
Targeting youth 10-17 in the area, I believe they would engage in growing food-fruit/veg garden, cooking, Learning Art & Languages, playing games, watching a movie, Outdoor basketball, handball & gym areas. Talks on life skills. A chill out-quite area. A variety of things they may not have available in their own homes or lives.
