Thank you to the residents who participated in Randwick and Waverley Council’s Name Your New Council competition. The winning name selected was the most inclusive and memorable – Eastern Beaches Council. It was also the most popular choice by far.

The name Eastern Beaches Council celebrates our coastal lifestyle and our eastern suburbs location and evokes a sense of community pride for the beautiful place we live in.

Congratulations to the residents who voted for this name – we had 66 winners! We will soon be in contact with you with details of your prize.

Waverley and Randwick Councils are calling on the eastern suburbs community to get behind naming the proposed new amalgamated council.

Under a merger proposal by the NSW Government, the new council would start in mid 2016 and combine the current councils of Waverley, Randwick and Woollahra resulting in a new eastern suburbs council that stretches from Watsons Bay to La Perouse.

This is your chance to suggest a name for the new council.

How can I get involved?

This competition is open to all eastern suburbs residents, ratepayers, business owners and students. Submissions will be accepted from 9am Wednesday 6 April until 5pm Sunday 22 May 2016. You can make a submission in the following ways:

  • In writing marked:

    Name your new council
    Communications Unit
    Randwick City Council
    30 Frances St
    Randwick NSW 2031

How will you pick the winners?

After collating all the submissions, a panel, which will include the Mayors and representatives from the two councils, will pick three names based on creativity and relevance. The winning names will be announced by Monday 30 May.

What will happen to the winning names?

We believe if no name is chosen, the state government will decide on a name for the new entity. Randwick City Council has suggested the name ‘Eastern Sydney Council’ as part of its submission to the NSW Government Merger Proposal in February 2016. The winning names from the competition will be submitted to the state government for review.

Do I get anything if my suggestion is one of the three winning names?

Yes! If your suggestion is chosen you will receive a prize and be acknowledged through communication and marketing collateral.
