Strategy adopted - May 2026

Randwick Council's Resilience Strategy was adopted at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 26 May 2026.

During the consultation period, we received 21 surveys and submissions for the Draft Resilient Randwick Strategy 2026–2036, and engaged with more than 100 people through face-to-face activities, including pop-ups at markets and community meetings.

Overall, feedback indicated broad support for the intent of the Strategy, particularly its focus on preparing for future shocks and stresses such as climate change, cost of living pressures and housing affordability.

Feedback received during the public exhibition period informed a number of updates to the draft Strategy. While the overall approach was supported, several changes have been made to strengthen its coverage of key risks and community priorities.

The most notable updates include:

  • New and revised actions to better respond to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
  • Additional content on hazard risks, including two new case studies focused on bushfire and flooding
  • A new strategic action addressing bushfire risk
  • Stronger wording of actions relating to flood risk to improve clarity and emphasis
  • Expanded recognition of key “shocks”, with bushfire and flooding more clearly identified across relevant actions

Resilient Randwick – Always Thriving

The new Draft Resilient Randwick Strategy 2026-2036 is a blueprint to creating a community that not only survives but adapts and thrives when faced with a wide range of shocks and stresses over the next decade.

Randwick is a great place to live, work and play. Like the rest of Greater Sydney, we face challenges that test our community and environment. Climate change is bringing more extreme weather and putting pressure on our coastline and infrastructure, while global events like pandemics and conflicts disrupt supply chains and create economic uncertainty. These pressures drive up costs, make housing less affordable and deepen inequalities, impacting wellbeing and community cohesion.

Resilience is about staying strong and connected through it all, so Randwick continues to thrive no matter what comes our way. It means protecting what we value, supporting our people and places, and being ready to adapt to change. Together, we can build a future that’s sustainable, inclusive and resilient.

How we developed the Draft Resilient Randwick Strategy 2026-2036

A resilience risk assessment was undertaken in conjunction with extensive community consultation, to understand the challenges our community faces and how we can best address them. Further detailed information on Randwick’s shocks, stresses, global drivers and national trends is presented in the supporting Draft Resilient Randwick Strategy – Synthesis Report.

Resilient Randwick’s Five Outcomes

This Strategy sets out five key Outcomes that guide action towards building a resilient city. These Outcomes are supported by 22 Goals and 94 Strategic Actions to be delivered over the next ten years.
