We're reviewing our Social Media Policy to reflect the increasing role social media plays in how we communicate, engage and build community in Randwick City.
The new draft policy is based on guidelines from the Office of Local Government and provides a more detailed framework to guide how Council and Councillors use social media. It is designed to promote open, respectful and transparent dialogue, while helping us meet our legal obligations and manage risks.
Key features of the draft policy:
Principles for Council’s use of social media, including openness, relevance, accuracy and respect.
Training and conduct requirements for both staff and Councillors.
New requirements for Councillors using social media, including clear identification, disclaimers, and content management responsibilities.
Mandatory ‘House Rules’ to guide community interaction on Council and Councillor pages.
Moderation rules to manage inappropriate content and encourage respectful discussion, including the ability to turn off commenting and banning users.
A complaints resolution process.
We are seeking your feedback to help finalise the policy.
Feedback, likes and shares open: 13 August to 10 September 2025.
