Randwick City Council has developed a draft waste management strategy to guide and direct Council’s actions to manage rubbish and recycling in Randwick City to 2030.

We know how important recycling is to the community and we want to know what you think about the strategy.

We’ve set some high targets such as:

  • diverting 75% of our waste from landfill
  • reducing our overall waste generation per person
  • reducing illegal dumping and problem waste such as chemicals

The strategy also proposes to use some advanced technology in the future called Energy from Waste. This technology takes residual waste and through combustion produces heat and electricity. This technology is yet to exist in Sydney, but making use of it when it becomes available could see Council divert up to 94% of our waste from landfill.

The Draft Waste Management Strategy is on public exhibition from 23 February 2018 to 9am 6 April 2018.

You can download the Draft Waste Management Strategy or view hard copies at one of Council’s libraries or our Customer Service Centre at 30 Frances St, Randwick.

How much will this new strategy cost?

Judy Lippa asked about 6 years ago

It is expected that the costs of the new Waste Strategy will remain similar to the current costs for the first five years. However, there is a potential for reducing the costs during the second five years if Energy from Waste facilities are available for processing of Council’s residual waste.
