Randwick City Council has endorsed Randwick’s first Draft Social Cohesion and Multicultural Plan to go on public exhibition.
We are now inviting the community to help shape how the City builds connection, inclusion, belonging and participation over the next few years.
Randwick City is a diverse community, with people from many cultures, languages, faith and lived experiences. Nearly 40% of residents were born overseas, and 28% speak a language other than English at home. This diversity is our strength, and the Plan sets out how Council will support a welcoming, safe and inclusive community for everyone.
What does the draft Plan focus on?
The draft Plan outlines actions Council will take to build social cohesion, including:
- Supporting multicultural and intercultural events and celebrations that connect our community.
- Strengthening responses to address racism, discrimination and antisemitism including through education and prevention initiatives.
- Improving access to information by providing clearer, more accessible and multilingual communication.
- Creating welcoming public spaces, such as parks, beaches, libraries and community centres that encourage community connections.
- Partnering with community organisations, services and local leaders to enhance inclusion and wellbeing.
- Building pathways for community participation, including leadership and training programs that support inclusive decision-making.
Why has Council developed this Plan?
This Plan delivers on commitments in the Inclusive Randwick Strategy and provides a coordinated approach to strengthening inclusion, belonging and multiculturalism across the City. It aims to:
- Guide Council resources, partnerships and engagement activities.
- Strengthen Council's leadership on social cohesion and multiculturalism.
- Ensure diverse communities are heard, included and supported to participate in community life.
