Proposed parking changes at The Spot

During our recent consultation on The Spot Streetscape Upgrade, feedback from the local community highlighted concerns regarding the proposed removal of parking along St Pauls Street and overall parking availability. In response, Council has assessed surrounding streets to identify opportunities for additional parking in the area before reporting on the outcomes of the Streetscape Upgrade consultation to Council in mid-2025.

Locations assessed:

  • Soudan Street
  • Aeolia Street
  • St Paul’s Street
  • Daintrey Crescent
  • Lee Street
  • Stewart Street
  • Coogee Bay Road

Following a detailed assessment, Lee Street, Stewart Street, and Coogee Bay Road were identified as the most suitable locations for additional parking near The Spot. All other locations were deemed non-feasible due to space constraints, existing traffic conditions, or safety considerations.

Proposed Parking Changes

More parking can be created by changing existing parking from parallel with the kerb to perpendicular or angled, depending on space and road width.

The proposed changes will provide:

  • 23 additional parking spaces on Lee Street and Stewart Street to offset the planned removal of parking spaces on the southern side of St Paul’s Street (between Perouse Road and Nancye Street) and outside Kurtosh.
  • 18 additional spaces on Coogee Bay Road.

The specific time restrictions for these new spaces are yet to be determined but will be allocated to support local businesses and prevent all-day parking that may impact existing availability.

Randwick Council is planning exciting upgrades to revitalise The Spot in Randwick - one of our city's most vibrant dining and entertainment precincts.

The proposed improvements will create more space for outdoor dining, add greenery, and make the area safer and more inviting for everyone.

The upgrades proposed include:

  • Undergrounding power lines and installing new smart poles to replace current street poles
  • Planting new shrubs and trees to increase canopy cover
  • Paving upgrades for improved aesthetics, functionality, and accessibility
  • Expanding the footpath to support alfresco dining
  • Introducing new feature lighting to enhance the night-time economy
  • Raised pedestrian crossings

The proposed upgrades will result in a reduction of parking spaces on the southern side of St Pauls Street between Perouse Road and Nancye Street, and on St Pauls Street outside Kurtosh.

The Australian Film Walk of Fame will be retained and incorporated in the footpath upgrades outside The Ritz.
