This consultation has concluded.

This community consultation has now closed. We had asked residents to Climbing Equipment share ideas on designing a playground for Alby Smith Reserve and we had lots of good ideas from residents, playground users and their parents.

The design includes:

  • replacing the existing swings, play unit and spring toy and providing a new rubber softfall surface
  • large embankment slide
  • cable flying fox on embankment
  • new safety fence around the playground
  • new picnic pallets and seating under shade structures
  • landscaping with new plantings, paths and bins
  • stairs and rock climbing holds on the embankment.

We invited people invited to share ideas on designing a playground based on what our young people need by:

  • signing in and joining in the community conversation on this site
  • meeting Council staff at the existing playground in Alby Smith Reserve at 4.30pm on Monday 18 March 2013
  • making a submission through this site
  • emailing your comments
  • writing to the General Manager, Randwick City Council, 30 Frances Street, Randwick 2031.

Deadline for comments: Tuesday 26 March 2013.

Randwick Council has dedicated funds to improve this playground in its 2012-13 Capital Works Program.

Ideas from the community will be taken into account in developing the plan for the proposed playground. When developed, the plan will go on public exhibition with further opportunities for community comment.

For further information contact the Council’s Call Centre on 1300 722 542.

We have looked into our files but cannot find any information about why the park was named after Alby Smith or who Alby was. We are hoping there might be someone out there who can tell us.

We want this playground to serve the needs of the children of Coogee.
